History
Acadiana's Cajun Meats & Spices was founded and incorporated in March 2000 by Deborah J. Fontenot.
(Although it had been a working idea for several months) Deborah grew up in a small town, Ville Platte, where her family owned a meat and sausage kitchen. Deborah was
aware that on numerous occasions displaced Cajuns would call requesting her family to ship them sausage, boudin, cracklins, or other items. Due to the extreme cost of shipping,
location of the business, no availability of dry ice, etc. the meat market was unable to meet these many requests. Several years later, Deborah decided that since she lived in
Lafayette, a much larger town, that perhaps she could remedy this situation by providing an Internet storefront for shipping Cajun Products. Deborah graduated form USL in
Lafayette with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She has worked as a Manager/ Director for 21 years, when she decided to retire from nursing and help out in the family
business by doing the shipping.
Deborah worked for months on putting together this business to provide authentic Cajun/Creole products for all those disappointed customers who called her family requesting products be shipped to them……..and for all those future customers craving "Real Cajun Food"
In the 1930's Evariste Fontenot Market was located in Prairie Ronde. He supplied meat to the Angola State Farm. In 1946 he and his son Frank moved the market to its present location in Ville Platte. Frank Fontenot and his son, Jimmie operated the market until Frank passed away in 1960. Jimmie continued to operate the market until he was disabled in 1989. His son, Jimmie Jr., continues to carry on the business as a fourth generation family owned business for nearly 70 years. Pictured above are Deborah and the Fontenot Family at their business.
